Through the annual Virginia Literary Awards, the Library recognizes Virginia authors in the categories of fiction and poetry, as well as nonfiction authors for works about a Virginia subject. The Library established the People’s Choice Awards in 2004 to give readers an opportunity to share their enthusiasm for favorite works by Virginia authors and about Virginia themes. Finalists are selected from the works nominated for the fiction and nonfiction categories. Winners are chosen by votes from the public.
