Gifts to the Library’s Special Collections The Library’s Special Collections continue to grow through the generosity of individuals and organizations who donate rare historic items, assuring that the collections represent diverse experiences and backgrounds in Virginia history. Other donors provide funding to purchase rare books, manuscripts, maps, photographs, prints and ephemera for the Library’s Special Collections.
The Library of Virginia determines whether a collection gift will be accepted based upon the Library’s collection plan. If an item fits into the Library’s collecting needs, it can be accessioned following approval from the Acquisitions Committee.
